Pheasant’s Eye narcissus

A white flower with a slender yellow trumpet ringed in red, the pheasant’s eye narcissus is also known as the poet’s daffodil. The earliest reference to this species appears in Historia Plantarum, the botanical survey written by the Greek scholar Theophrastus around 350 BC. This flower is often associated with the Greek hero Narcissus, who in one version of the myth was transformed into a flower recognized as the narcissus poeticus. A fragrant flower, its oil has long been used to create perfumes.
