Kousa dogwood

While Kousa dogwoods are native to east Asia, they have been naturalized in New York state. Like American dogwoods, they have the classic white flowers with four petals, but they tend to flower about a month after their American counterparts. Their red berries on kousa dogwoods are edible and taste like persimmons; in the fall their leaves turn bright red.
