Heartleaf foamflower

Heartleaf foamflowers are so named for the delicate white blossoms that grow in clusters on tall, slender stems, creating a frothy look. The Latin name refers both to its heart-shaped leaves (cordifolia), and the crown-like appearance of its flowers (tiarella). Relatives of heucheras, which are also present in Mellon’s garden, heartleaf foamflowers have persistent foliage that can turn bronze in the autumn and winter. Native to New York, the flower has many uses for the Haudenosaunee people, most of which are centered on pediatric care.
