Bergenia cordifolia

Native Range: Asia

As its name suggests, this evergreen perennial has heart-shaped leaves that turn from green to red in the fall. The flowers develop in the late spring in small pink clusters. Used medicinally and as a tea in its native Siberia and Mongolia, the heartleaf bergenia is also sometimes called pigsqueak because of the sound the leaf makes when it is rubbed between two fingers.
